Do you have a dry, flaky scalp? Are you tired of expensive anti-dandruff shampoos that don’t work? Don’t worry! In this article, we will show you how to create your own dandruff treatment at home in no time.

Get rid of Dandruff with Listerine

Listerine is no longer just for fresh breath! The antiseptic mouthwash can be used as an effective cure for dandruff. Let’s find out how to get rid of dandruff with it!

Initially, Listerine was developed as a cure for dandruff. In 1879, the product was advertised for its germicidal properties and used to clean wounds, soothe insect bites, and to treat fungal infections such as athlete’s feet.

There are very good reasons why Listerine is an effective treatment for dandruff. It does contain essential oils like menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptol. These ingredients have antiseptic and anti-fungal effects. Methyl salicylate also has an anti-inflammatory, cooling action wherever it’s applied. Therefore Listerine is perfect for soothing an itchy scalp and for treating dandruff.

What you need for your dandruff home remedy

  • Listerine (for best results, use the traditional, orange/yellow colored Listerine)
  • Water
  • A Spray bottle

How to apply the dandruff treatment

  • Fill a spray bottle with half Listerine and half water, mix it well.
  • After you’ve washed your hair, spray the mixture directly onto your scalp while your hair is still damp.
  • Let the mixture sit on your scalp for 5 minutes, then wash it out with water. Your scalp will feel clean and refreshed and will be dandruff free.

To get rid of dandruff, you can also use Listerine as a final rinse after shampooing and conditioning. Mix 1/2 cup of Listerine with 1/2 cup of water and apply to towel-dried, clean hair, pouring it as close to the scalp as possible. Rub it in with your fingertips, leave it for about 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Wait for the right moment to start your dandruff treatment

Don’t use Listerine on areas of broken or very irritated skin, because it may have a drying effect. Plus, Listerine contains alcohol, which will sting on irritated skin. Before starting your dandruff treatment, wait until any cuts or broken skin are healed. Zinc Capsules can help to preserve your skin, hair, and nails from damage.
